Equinox

Open Alpha USC, Fall 2021

My introduction to game design began with the creation of Equinox. Before working on this team, I had never worked on anything of the sort. After having such a positive experience being surrounded by such inspiring individuals, I absolutely fell in love with the creative process behind designing and writing a video game.

For this project, I met weekly with a large cohort of diverse students accepted into Open Alpha, a game-making organization within USC Games/Engineering. The team included artists, programmers, sound designers, and game designers. Additional design meetings were held on top of our general meetings, in which I proposed the major beats for our finished story and crafted the mechanics/technical aspects of Equinox. I also wrote several poems and sets of couplets that were ultimately included in the final product, and illustrated the UI (buttons) for the final game as well.

This experience was pivotal in terms of developing my interest in games. There was something magical about working with such a wonderful team of people and watching our idea come to life, and seeing our work on Steam was absolutely unreal!
