Toontown Rewritten*
As a child, I was a huge fan of Massive Multiplayer Online games-- Toontown Online was no exception. The original game was created for Disney by Jesse Schell in 2003, but sadly closed in 2013. Hence, Toontown Rewritten was born: an identical version of Disney's Toontown Online, except the fact that it's free to play! Shockingly, Toontown Rewritten has managed to grow and build off of Disney's original vision, attracting over 2,000,000 players worldwide. Jesse Schell himself has participated in several events hosted by the Toontown Rewritten team, and Toontown Rewritten's founder now works professionally for Schell Games.
I became an avid player of Toontown Rewritten the moment it released. After nearly 10 years of playing TTR, I applied for the role of Game Designer and made it onto the team! The entire team is made up of volunteers who are willing to help fund the game and craft new additions for its playerbase. I have since been promoted to Design Coordinator, a role in which I create design documents, interview and hire new designers, help to approve any tweaks that are added into the game, and communicate with leads, coordinators, and directors on how to improve the department. I work closely with a staff of over 100 members (art, programming, sound, community management, creative writing, and more) and am currently working as Design Director for Toontown's newest playground (the first new region of gameplay in over 10 years)!
ToonFest is by far the most exciting project I have participated in with Toontown Rewritten thus far, which was a weekend packed full of panels, activities, and meeting fellow players of the game at Momocon in Atlanta, Georgia. I personally prepared a panel showcasing the design pillars of Toontown Rewritten and presented it alongside Joey Ziolkowski, the director of TTR. I also spoke at a Q & A panel for current players and prepped a design for a brand new street for Toontown that players got to playtest live throughout the weekend! The craziest part of Toonfest was being pied in the face by fans alongside several of my fellow teammates.
I have also been a guest livestreamer twice for ToonFest for Charity, an event where Toontown players and staff members stream their gameplay and raise money for Extra Life 4 Kids. In both 2022 and 2023, we were able to raise over $1,000!
*Note: I am unable to display most of my design docs on this page because the team is asked to keep new content confidential! If you have questions about anything specific, feel free to ask me individually.
